• How Does This Compare to a Traditional School Education?

  Leadership Academy of Utah (LAU) follows a traditional academic calendar and graduation requirements, but learning happens primarily online. Students take a full course load, earn accredited credit, and are taught by expert, certified teachers (who we call mentors).
  
  Like a traditional school, there are structured classes, grading standards, and transcripts. What makes LAU different is its emphasis on leadership, discussion-based learning, and developing independent, self-directed students—along with our in-person adventure courses!

• Is Leadership Academy of Utah Tuition-Free?

  Yes. LAU is a publicly funded charter school, so tuition is $0. Required academic materials are provided. Families are responsible for high-speed internet, and there may be limited optional costs related to specific programs or graduation items.

• Will My Child Receive a Diploma?

  Yes. Students who meet our graduation requirements receive an accredited high school diploma.

• How Do Colleges View the Diploma?

  Because LAU is fully accredited, colleges recognize our diploma like any other accredited public high school. Students also have access to advanced coursework and early college opportunities, which help prepare them for higher education.

• Will My Child Stay Motivated and on-Task Without a Teacher in the Room?

  Students attend live-online classes with interactive, mentor-led lessons and discussions, and have access to mentor office hours and additional support. Success at LAU requires independence and time management, but students are supported through regular communication, study resources, and parent-mentor collaboration.

• How Much Do I, as a Parent, Have to Teach or Supervise?

  Parents are not expected to teach the curriculum. Our talented mentors provide instruction. However, parents play an important role in helping students stay organized, set daily goals, and stay accountable. Consistent check-ins with your student go a long way.

• How Much Time Will My Child Spend on a Screen Each Day?

  Students attend live-online classes and complete assignments digitally, so screens are part of the day. However, learning also includes offline reading and projects. Overall academic time is similar to a traditional school day.

• How Can I Stay Involved in My Child's Learning?

  Parents receive regular updates, can monitor grades and transcripts, and can communicate directly with mentors. We encourage parents to stay closely involved by using these resources and checking in daily with your student.
